Pseudo-wisdom

"Those who deeply feel their own need to be taught by the Lord do not itch to dispense their pseudo-wisdom to others."

God's Way

"What we need...is not a comfortable conscience with whatever seems to be the way of things, but a clear view of the will of God and the spiritual impetus to do things his way! If we do this, we may well discover that what we thoughtlessly took for granted was marked with condemnation by God, wheras his way is full of the richest blessings!

Have a Great Aim

"As Christians, I challenge you. Have a great aim - have a high standard - make Jesus your ideal...make Him an ideal not merely to be admired but also to be followed."

Eric Liddell

Four Steps to Peace

"Four steps that lead to peace:

Be desirous of doing the will of another, rather than thine own.
Choose always to have less, rather than more.
Seek always the lowest place, and be inferior to every one.
Wish always, and pray, that the will of God may be wholly fulfilled in thee."

True Holiness

"When people talk of having received 'such a blessing', and of having found 'the higher life', after hearing some earnest advocate of 'holiness by faith and self-consecration', while their friends and families see no improvement and no increased sanctity in their daily tempers and behaviours, immense harm is done to the cause of Christ. True holiness, we surely ought to remember, does not consist merely of inward sensations and impressions. It is much more than tears and sighs and bodily excitement and a quickened pulse and a passionate feeling of attachment to our own favourite preachers and our own religious party and a readiness to quarrel with everyone who does not agree with us. It is something of the 'image of Christ', which can be seen and observed by others in our private life and habits and character and doings (Rom 8:29)."

Eternal Significance

"Desire that your life count for something great! Long for your life to have eternal significance. Want this! Don't coast through life without a passion."

John Piper

Be Careful

"Those who boast about their purity of doctrine must be careful to see that it is accompanied by holy living. Do you think that your understanding of God's Word is better than that of many others? Do you live by that Word? Does your conduct match your orthodoxy? Unbelievers draw conclusions about the character of God from the way that you live."
